I'm pregnant, can I take a DNA paternity test?

Yes, there are 2 procedures to collect prenatal DNA samples; Chronic Villi Sampling (CVS), performed at ~10-13 weeks of pregnancy or Amniocentesis at ~14-24 weeks. Both procedures involve some medical risk, so its best to consult with your OB/GYN, Case Coordinator, and/ or your Genetic Counselor.

The father of my child was recently killed, can I get a DNA paternity test for benefits?

Yes, there are several options available. The first option is to check with the coroner's or medical examiners office for stored blood or tissue samples. If usable we can perform a paternity test using the sample in place of the alleged father. If a sample from the alleged father is not available a grandparentage test is the next best option. By including both the alleged father parents, the alleged fathers DNA profile can be reconstructed.

If one or both of the alleged fathers parents are unavailable other family relationship test may be performed to determine biological relationships.

What if the two alleged fathers are related (i.e. father-son, brothers)?

Paternity can be established with alleged fathers that are related, such as full brothers or father and son. Due to their close relationship they will share some common DNA. Its important that this information is reviled to the Case Coordinator before testing begins.

What if the alleged father(s) live in different state then my child and I?
